This picture of Donald F. Lehnhoff Sr., was taken in Norfolk, Virginia during WWII. My Mother-In-Law, Marie Lehnhoff, Mom, [Bertie Marie Mink], Clifford [Clifford Paris Mink II] and I went to Norfolk to see Don before his ship sailed to its next deployment. We were not supposed to know that he was in Norfolk. When we arrived we went to his ship to find him, only to be told that he had gone into town.

We walked the streets of Norfolk looking for him.. The town was packed with sailors in whites. We looked at all of the faces (and got some whistles and offers of "help") but to no avail. We had left our hotel address at the ship just in case Don came back. Later that night Don did find us and spent the night in our room. Rooms were at a premium so we all stayed in the same room.

We all spent the next day together. Later that evening, in order to have some time alone, Don and I took the car and went to a park. While I was in Donald's arms I happened to look out of the back window of the car and saw a man creeping up behind the car. We quickly drove away and went back to the hotel. That was very scary!!! He clearly had bad intentions, and we were so lucky that we saw him in time.
